Welcome to VitalLaw!

VitalLaw provides you with the research tools to find just the right information for your legal needs. The VitalLaw product is organized into two areas:

• VitalLaw.com where you will find daily legal news and other resources across all areas (in and out of subscription) – over time we will be centralizing all legal news in this area
• my.VitalLaw.com where you will find VitalLaw Research features and functions

Touring VitalLaw.com

Once you log into VitalLaw.com, your subscribed daily news content and areas will be unlocked and available for you to browse at VitalLaw.com. See Subscribing to News for more information.

Tip: Bold headlines are unlocked. Headlines that are not bold have a hover-tooltip that will show you how many complimentary views of unsubscribed content you have left at VitalLaw.com for this calendar month. Each month you are granted a number of additional complimentary views to explore content outside of your subscription.

The VitalLaw.com home page is your starting point to browse and search VitalLaw.com. Here you will find:

• Search box
  Allows you to search the news and other content at VitalLaw.com.

Tip: On the Area and Legal Directory pages, you can filter your search to just that page rather than All pages.
Tip: On the Search Results page, click the “See results at my.vitallaw.com” button to send your search criteria to VitalLaw Research and see more results across all document types.
Tip: To search within a product such as RBSource Filings, use the product switcher to select that product and then run a product specific search.

• Products
  Quick access to your subscribed products
• Home
  Provides access to breaking news, top stories of the day across all areas, and access to special reports. Scroll down to see all the news published in the last few days.
• Areas
  The Areas menu provides you with access to news and other resources by practice, topics, or emerging areas of the law. Each area page provides access to the most recent news in the body of the page. Scroll down to view more stories. On the far right, next to the news stories, you will see other spotlighted resources such as primary and secondary content for this area.

Tip: If the area is not in your subscription, a message appears at the top. You can browse this page and then use your complimentary views to access articles of interest.  The top story is always complimentary. 

• Legal Directory
  The legal directory page provides quick access to key legal resources commonly used in legal research and analysis.
• Document page
  Each article has its own document page where you can read the full story and access other articles in this area. At the top right, you’ll find access to document features such as: Share, Like, Follow on LinkedIn, Feedback and Print.

Tip: Use the Share button to share via email or post to your personal feed at LinkedIn. Use the Follow button to view and follow our LinkedIn page for this article/area.

On the far left, you’ll see the following buttons that expand/collapse the left navigation pane to show:

• Articles - allows you to search for news by date and browse the articles for the selected day.
• Law Firms - lists law firms mentioned in today's news.
• Organizations - lists organizations mentioned in the article shown

Touring VitalLaw Research at my.VitalLaw.com

Use the Products switcher to select VitalLaw Research. A new browser tab will open at My.VitalLaw.com.  Here you will find your Practice Area dashboards, primary and secondary content, along with other legal research resources such as practical content.  Here you will find:

• Search box
  Enter your search term(s) to quickly and easily find documents that match your specific search criteria.

Tip: The Did you mean? feature identifies common misspellings and provides alternate suggestions if one is used in a search.

• Content
  Browse selected VitalLaw subscription content by clicking a link within any dashboard content category. You can also browse or search all publication titles within your subscription using the Titles feature. See Browsing Subscribed Content for more information.

Tip: Dashboards can be customized. See Managing Dashboards for more information.

VitalLaw also includes the following global features that you can access from anywhere within VitalLaw Research:

• History
  VitalLaw records your recent searches that you have performed and the recent documents you have viewed while browsing so that you can easily refer to that search or document again. History tracking includes your document views at VitalLaw.com.
• Folders
  Use Folders to save and organize documents you find during your research session. See Managing Folders for more information.
• Saved Items
  Select Saved Items to view your saved searches, notes and highlights, and favorites.
• News
  Set up personalized email delivery of news and current awareness. See Subscribing to News for more information.
