Every version of a document is being analyzed on an annual basis from December 31, 1986 to December 31, 2016, and as of each week from January 1, 2017 going forward. If a date within this range is not present, that means no change in the document was detected.
Document Compare
You can compare any two versions of a document on the timeline to see how documents change.
- The platform will present a markup of changes in the two documents.
- It highlights in the Table of Contents which document is being compared
- It indicated in the blue box at the top of the document and in the timeline which dates are being compared
- Press clear after the indicated dates to remove the mark-up
Point-in-Time Navigation

The platform will present the correct version in place for the Active Date on the timeline. The version selected will be highlighted in green (see below).
All links within the system remain time-aware.
- By clicking a link within the document, the user will be directed to the version of that document for the Active Date. This improves research accuracy.
- Paste the link to a regulation into word documents and working papers. The link will remain time-aware so you can reference the exact version you were referring to for a point-in-time.
